After installation, edit /etc/mysql/my.cnf to access server from remote pc.
comment out this line
#bind-address = 127.0.0.1

Login into Mysql
MySQL -u root

"enter password"

Give user remote access in order for MySQL Workbench to connect from a remote computer
GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'root'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'password' WITH GRANT OPTION;
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

or specifically

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'user'@'domain' IDENTIFIED BY 'your password' WITH GRANT OPTION;
FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

If you need to create a user or change a password.
mysql> CREATE USER 'jeffrey'@'localhost'
    -> IDENTIFIED BY 'mypass';

mysql> ALTER USER 'jeffrey'@'localhost'
    -> IDENTIFIED BY 'mypass';
