uname -a

To update your Debian-based Linux distro, you can use apt-get in a terminal.

Update apt:

sudo apt-get update

Install packages:

sudo apt-get upgrade

Executing Files

For shell scripts...
sh scriptname.sh -switches
or
sudo sh scriptname.sh -switches

For .bin files
./filename.bin -switches
